Homebrew Thoughts: Thinking ahead for infect

I enjoy creating decks that are unlike what most decks are. It's not easy, and sometimes they're not as good, but it sure is a lot of fun.

I've been looking at infect, trying a couple different incarnations, but not being able to settle on any specific deck. I've decided to hold off until the final set from Scars is released. However, I have an idea in mind, and that involves green and blue.

The aggro and pump of green combined with the control of blue I think should prove effective. I'm going to rely on aggro and pump to try and win quick, and keep my blue spells relatively low, for the exception of my late-game winner, if needed.

With a Turn Aside or two in hand, this card can easily win the game mid/late-game.

This card alone is what makes me want to play green with infect so badly. You block my Ichorclaw Myr? Giant Growth plus Unnatural Predation. Sounds so wonderful.

Infect doesn't have any one-drops (aside from Vector Asp, but requires black), but battle cry sure is attractive with infect.

Add in some other green infect staples like Blight Mamba and Putrefax, plus whatever the final set decides to bestow upon us, and this deck could be rather awesome.

Here is my current idea. Note that I am staying away from the Zendikar block completely. I want this deck to be standard as long as possible.

Creatures:
4x Signal Pest
4x Blight Mamba
4x Ichorclaw Myr
2x Putrefax

Instants:
4x Giant Growth
2x Mirran Mettle
4x Unnatural Predation
4x Turn Aside
4x Mana Leak

Sorceries:
2x Overwhelming Stampede

Enchantments:
2x Corrupted Conscience

Land:
12x Forest
8x Island
4x Terramorphic Expanse

I need more creatures and less spells, but again, I'm waiting until the next set. After putting this together on Tapped Out (privately), the estimated price for everything is $27.36, even cheaper than my Knowledge Ascension deck.

  1. I just recently added Corrupted Conscience to my black based infect deck.

I added Phyrexian Crusaders to my deck, which was URB and realized that the Assault strobe did nothing because of the Pro-red, so I stripped down to U/B and added a better control scheme to the deck without the red in it, and decided that I really like the Corrupted Conscience and wanted to try it out.

I only have it sideboarded, but maybe I can go more control eventually and mainboard it.

I'm glad to know someone else with a Magic Blog.

    Keep the ideas flowing.
